Analysis of the treatment situation with last resort antibiotics
Antibiotics are important pharmaceutical products for the treatment of bacterial infections. Due to its broad utilisation in treatment practice an increasing bacterial resistance could be observed which could not be addressed by the development of new antibiotics. Additionally, there is evidence for an overtreatment especially with antibiotics of last resort. Therefore, the aim of the project is to analyse the treatment situation with antibiotics of last resort in Germany. Claims data analyses will be performed to provide evidence regarding the treatment patterns and to identify the influencing factors of antibiotics prescriptions. Based on the results of the claims data analyses in a second step expert interviews with medical doctors will be conducted to get insight into incentives regarding the prescription of antibiotics. The results of the project will lead to target-group-specific measures and recommendations for an appropriate and responsible handling of antibiotics of last resort.
